Do I need a car ? Yes !
Our hotel & villa are located in the northern part of the Island in the nature, inbetween sea, jungle and mountains. There are only two restaurents at walking distance and no store of any kind (no supermaket, convenience store, etc.). The first convenience store is at 20 min car drive, and supermarkets 25~30 minutes car drive (to the city).
This area is accessible by bus but there are only 3~4 buses / day. Taxi from the city cost about 5000 YEN / ride. Some activities (such as diving) offer hotel pickups, and we can offer bycicle (and ebike) rental, but if you need a rental car, you must know that Ishigaki is short in car rental availability and reservations must be made as soon as possible. For this reason, we offer a car rental service (official rental car registered).
Rental Conditions & Driver Permit Information
Should you want to reserve one of our cars, please inform us at least 2 weeks in advance, and please provide a scan or picture of your driving license (Japanese license or valid international driving permit). IMPORTANT: Make sure you have the 1949 Geneva convention international driving permit. The 1969 Vienna Convention Driving Permit is NOT valid in Japan.
Please note that we also offer a driver licence translation service, charged 6000 YEN, available up to 2 weeks prior to your arrival, for the following countries: France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Monaco and Taiwan. This translation service, through the Japan Automobile Federation, prevents you from obtaining an international driving permit. (This service is particularly useful for countries in which international driving permit application takes several months).
